Performing Arts 2023 Spring Update

Good morning music families,

May is a month full of performances for the Performing Arts and we hope you will consider joining us for our end-of-year concerts and productions. The Vocal Finale Concert on May 11 involves all choir groups in grades 5-12. The concert begins at 6:30 pm in the John Mitchell Theatre and will likely end around 7:45. The concert will be on a live stream and may be accessed here. Please note, the video may not appear until moments before the concert begins and you may need to refresh the page in order for it to appear.

Arrival
Please plan to have your performer(s) arrive between 6:00-6:15. Students should enter through Door 2 and report directly to their assigned homeroom for the concert. During the segments of the concert in which your child is not performing, they will be in their assigned room with a Prairie teacher.

Seating
The Finale Concert does not require admission or tickets to attend. Doors will be open at 6:00. Seating is general admission and we ask that you fill in the rows from the center out and please not leave empty seats between families. The John Mitchell Theatre has 301 fixed seats and we will have some extra chairs available if necessary. With 115 students performing, the space can get full quickly, so your cooperation in eliminating empty seats between families is especially appreciated.

Concert Attire
All performers should wear black and white dress clothes and shoes. Any combination of black and white is acceptable. Performers should avoid wearing athletic clothing, jeans, flip-flops, or slides but may wear non-distracting colorful accessories (scarves, neckties, bowties, etc.). Many of our performers are in the stages of constant growth — if your child is in this situation and will not have black and white clothing readily available, students may default to school uniform khaki pants.

Concert Duration & Dismissal
The final piece of the concert is a combined group piece featuring all vocal ensembles. Upon the completion of that song, students will be dismissed from the stage to collect any of their belongings from their homeroom and return their folders to the choir room. Once students have returned their folders, they may exit through Door 2.

Before the Concert – Art Showcase
The Visual Arts Department’s Spring Showcase will be on display in the hallways beginning May 8, and families are invited to explore the artwork at the Art Showcase Reception on Thursday, May 11th from 3:30 – 5:00 pm. Cookies and lemonade will be served in the Performing Arts Circle (PAC).

If you have any questions, please contact me via email.

Sincerely,
Fletcher Paulsen
