Girls' Basketball

Hosting Racine Lutheran for their conference and home opener on Friday, December 6th, Girls’ Basketball ended with an 87-15 win. Coach Abby Jaramillo stated, “We had great defensive energy from all nine players. They all committed to playing fundamental, tough, hard-nosed defense for the entire game. Because of our defensive performance, we were able to get a lot of easy baskets in transition.” Meg Decker ’25 led all scorers with 23 points, and JJ Barnes ’25 added another 20. “Finley Remington ’27 did a great job of seeing mismatches, posting up, and commanding the ball inside,” said Jaramillo. Remington had a career-high 13 points in the win. The win also marked Jaramillo’s 100th career win as a varsity head coach.

Taking on conference opponent Martin Luther on Tuesday, December 10th, the Hawks brought home a 69-25 victory. The Hawks had a balanced scoring attack throughout the game, led by Decker’s 17 points. “Amiyah Galica ’26 had a breakthrough game offensively. She was looking to be more of an aggressive scorer. Having a third consistent scoring threat will benefit our team going forward,” added Coach J. Galica finished with 16 points as did Barnes. The girls will continue their conference slate on Friday, December 13th at Kenosha St. Joe’s.

Boys' Basketball

The Boys’ Basketball team traveled to St. Thomas More on Saturday, December 7th, to take on the defending Division 3 State Champion Cavaliers and came away with an exciting 79-77 win on a buzzer-beating layup by Dalton Ahlensdorf ’27. After being down 38-25 at halftime, the boys shot 22-30 overall in the 2nd half to storm back. Chandler Perry ’27 led the way with 23 points on 11 of 14 shooting, and Carsen Eeg ’25 added 20 points and seven assists with no turnovers. Ahlensdorf added 20 of his own, including the layup at the buzzer to win the game. Ryan Vanoss ’27 had 12 points on four of seven shooting from three. “I’m proud of the effort and the boys never losing faith that they could find a way to win,” said Head Coach Jason Atanasoff.

On Tuesday, December 10th, the Hawks lost a close game against Martin Luther in the Johnson Athletic Center, 65-59. Coach Atanasoff said, “It’s a good competitive game against a solid ball club.  We certainly had our chances, but give Martin Luther credit. They got some big stops down the stretch and seemed to hit a three whenever we were making a run at them. The effort was there; we just need to find a way to execute better and on a more consistent level.” Ahlensdorf led the Hawks with 15 points, while Vanoss added 14. Emmett Wassil ’28 had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Hawks.

On the road on Thursday, the Hawks fell 51-50 to Kenosha St. Joe’s. “It was a tough back-and-forth game,” said Atanasoff. “It obviously was not the result we wanted, but I can’t fault the effort of this team.” The boys returned from a 33-27 deficit at the half to tie the game at 41 midway through the second half. It was back and forth for the remainder of the game. The Hawks held a one point advantage with under a minute to play, but St. Joe’s got to the free throw line and made both shots. With a chance to take the game at the buzzer, the shot from the Hawks didn’t fall.

Girls’ Golf

After being approved by Southeast Conference Athletic Directors and a fast-track application was approved by the WIAA, our girls’ golf team will have a new home in the Southeast Conference beginning in the 2025 season. Due to the lack of girls’ golf teams in the Metro Classic Conference, our Hawks were previously independent. “The Prairie School Girls’ Golf Team is excited about this opportunity,” adds Coach Carrie Massey. This move will not affect the Metro Classic Conference alignment for the remainder of our athletic teams.
