Boys' Basketball

Taking on conference rival St. Joe’s on Thursday, January 30th, the Hawks could not win in a challenging game. The Hawks kept the game close throughout, trailing 27-24 at the half and tying the game with only a few minutes to go. The Hawks ultimately fell 46-40. Leading the charge for the Hawks were Dalton Ahlensdorf ’27 with 16 points and three blocks and Carsen Eeg ’25 with 12 points and three assists.

The boys faced St. Francis de Sales from Chicago to cap off the seventh annual Border Battle in the Johnson Athletic Center. In another tight game where the opponent couldn’t miss from behind the arc, the Hawks fell 81-78. Going into halftime in a 43-43 tie, the boys continued to battle and brought a six point lead into the last minute. A defensive miscue led to the go-ahead basket for the Pioneers, and the Hawks were just off the mark on their last shot of the game. “We continue to battle and give ourselves a chance. We executed on the offensive end at a high level but couldn’t get enough stops to secure the win,” said Coach Jason Atanasoff. Ryan Vanoss ’27 led the Hawks with 21 points, Eeg added 20, and Ahlensdorf chipped in 18 points and nine rebounds.

The Hawks had a tough matchup at Dominican on Tuesday, February 4, losing 89-40. Holding their own in the first few minutes of the game, the Hawks could not keep pace with the Knights. A 23 turnover night and poor shooting contributed to the offensive woes for the boys, who shot just 12-30 from 2 and 5-24 from behind the arc. Ahlensdorf led the Hawks with a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Eeg added 10 points. “We’ve been competitively playing good, experienced, and talented teams. This one didn’t turn out that way. Basketball, ultimately, is a game of matchups, and Dominican is a tough matchup for us. Whether we played man or zone, it didn’t seem to matter Tuesday night,” said Coach Atanasoff.

Girls' Basketball

In front of an enthusiastic Primary and Middle School Fan Night Crowd on Friday, January 31st, the shorthanded Hawks were able to hold off Kenosha St. Joe’s 73-53. Following hot shooting to begin the game, the Hawks never let go of their lead, going into the half with a 45-30 advantage. Spreading around the scoring, four girls scored in double figures, with JJ Barnes ’25 leading the way with 25. Meg Decker ’25 added 20, while Amiyah Galica ’26 and Elle Jaramillo ’26 added 14 and 13 respectively. Finley Remington ’27 grabbed 10 rebounds as the Hawks bested the Lancers 36-25 in that stat.

Taking on conference rival Dominican in the Johnson Athletic Center on Tuesday, February 4th, the Hawks dominated the matchup and came away with a 72-26 victory. It was another milestone night for Barnes as she scored her 2,000th career point with a second half three. Barnes again led the Hawks in scoring, with 25 points in the game to go along with 7 rebounds. Remington added a career high 17 points, while Decker added 10 points and 7 assists in the resounding win. The Hawks are at home again on Friday, February 7th, when they will celebrate Barnes and Decker in their Senior Night game against St. Catherine’s.
