After an epic, whole-school sendoff, the Hawks headed to the Resch Center in Green Bay to take on the Cuba City Cubans in a WIAA State Semi-Final matchup. After taking an early lead, a size advantage began to work in the Cubans’ favor, with their 5’10” forward scoring 15 first-half points. Foul trouble midway through the first half left JJ Barnes ’25 and Keira Kimbrough ’27 watching from the bench. The rest of the team kept the score at a manageable four-point difference at the half. In the second half, the Hawks kept the game close and installed a full-court press that threw off Cuba City, leading to an 8-point run for our Hawks. The second half featured four lead changes and a tied score before the game ended with a 68-63 Cubans win. The Hawks were led by Barnes with 24 points and 12 rebounds with Amiyah Galica ’26 adding 11. Senior Meg Decker added 9 points, five assists, and two steals. Finley Remington ’27 and Elle Jaramillo ’26 hit some timely shots to keep the Hawks close and finished with 4 and 6 points, respectively.

Congratulations on an incredible season! Thank you to our seniors, JJ & Meg, for leaving your mark on Prairie Girls’ Basketball.

Boys' Basketball

Boys’ Basketball continued their Cinderella story on Saturday, March 15th, in the Whitefish Bay High School Gym as they took on #7 seeded Cedar Grove-Belgium in the sectional final. The Rockets, riding their own magical postseason run, previously knocked off top-five ranked Kohler and Roncalli. The game started slowly, with neither team able to find the bottom of the net. With the score tied 2-2 at the 11:42 mark, Carsen Eeg ’25 hit a three to break open the scoring for the Hawks, and they didn’t trail for the remainder of the game. Riding the hot hand of Ryan Vanoss ’27, who shot an incredible 6 of 10 from 3-point range, the Hawks beat the Rockets 61-58 to earn their spot at the WIAA State Tournament for the first time since 2021. Vanoss led the scoring with 21 points, while Eeg added 13 points and dished out eight assists. With a 14-15 record, the Hawks were seeded 4th for the State Tournament and pitted against #1 Bonduel. “We like flying under the radar,” said Coach Jason Atanasoff, “We want to go up there and play the best and see how we measure up.”
