Hawks You Should Know

By Meghan Benson | Middle School, Student Life

When it comes to teamwork, problem-solving, and pushing the limits of their math skills, Prairie’s MathCounts team does it all. This dedicated group of Middle School students spent their E days this year diving into computation tricks, exploring problem-solving strategies, and working together to strengthen their abilities – all while having a great time collaborating as a team.

This year’s MathCounts team members include Jillian Anders ’29, Alexis Anders ’30, Porter Byrne ’31, Luca Castellano ’29, Nalani Foster ’30, Jonas Isaacson ’31, Hope Jensen ’30, Aarav Kumar ’30, Constanza Reyes-Belaunzaran ’29, Beckhim Rozzoni ’31, and Umaiza Warrich ’30. Each of these students showed incredible dedication and enthusiasm, bringing their unique strengths and a shared passion for math to every practice.

Their hard work paid off when they competed in the chapter competition on February 8th — and qualified for the state competition. On March 8th, the team traveled to Sheboygan to face off against some of the best young mathematicians in the state. While they didn’t place in the top 10, their effort, sportsmanship, and determination were undeniable.

“I couldn’t be more proud of them,” said their coach and Middle School Math Teacher, Kelly Christensen. “They put their best foot forward, tried their hardest, and truly embodied what it means to be a Hawk – working hard, supporting each other, and always striving for growth.”

The MathCounts team’s spirit and commitment make them a group of Hawks we’re honored to celebrate. Congratulations on an incredible season, and we can’t wait to see what you’ll accomplish next year!
