“Metal Magician, Imaginative Inventor, Spectral Specialist”
The Prairie School is honored to provide the space for master artist Bill Reid to grace the community with his uniquely creative creations. As an Artist in Residence, Bill considers The Prairie School art room his work station. Surrounded by heaps of colorful odds and ends, scrap metal, and welding equipment, Bill can be found quietly working away torching together his creations piece by piece.
With artwork located throughout the School and classrooms, it is easy to stop and marvel at the zany and vibrant artwork. Some of his unique items are derived from simple puns including animal names and adjectives, such as “The Distanteater” and “The Artelope.” Every piece has a story which helps drive the clever word plays and design.
Bill received his BFA at the Kansas City Art Institute and his MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. His creativity has granted him numerous awards and has allowed him over a dozen museum exhibitions across the country.
The Prairie School is one of the handful of schools in The United States that invests in an Artist in Residence. The school is happy to do so to provide the highest quality instruction and inspiration to students in the field of visual art.
