What Does It Mean to Be Part of Prairie?
It means learning and thriving in a community without preconceived notions of who you ought to be, but has great expectations of what you can do
It means enabling students to discover their passions while fostering a love of learning and the desire to know more. It means taking advantage of unique and ever-evolving opportunities – discovering the intricacies of glass blowing, writing poetry and competing at the national level, participating on state-championship athletic teams where no-cut policies allow for growth and exploration, and demonstrating leadership through activities like stream and water testing in 3rd grade, or directing and starring in one-act performances in Upper School.
It means being inspired by a faculty that is passionate about a growth mindset, both for themselves and their students. It is creating and collaborating in a classroom where students are known, valued, supported, and challenged.
It means that we are all in this together – students, families, and faculty – to construct a limitless learning environment for each and every child.
We can tell you so much more about what sets Prairie apart, but we invite you to come to campus and experience it all for yourself. It will be the visit that changes your child’s life.
Shay Borzynski '00, Director of Admission
When you consider the wide-ranging impact a Prairie education will have on your child’s life, choosing TPS could be one the most important investments you will ever make.
While every school offers an education, not every education offers the returns you want for your son or daughter. With nearly half of all students annually receiving support from Prairie’s Scholarship Program – this is aid that does not need to be paid back to Prairie – we are excited to work with mission-match families aspiring to provide their child with a world-class education.
Since many factors guide scholarship decisions, we encourage families not to make assumptions about whether they are eligible, but to have a confidential discussion with our Admission staff. Through scholarships and payment plans, we strive to make Prairie affordable for all families whose children have been admitted.
The Admission Process
Admission to Prairie is a selective process and spaces are limited. For full consideration, new-to-Prairie families should submit applications by March 1. After that date, your application will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
After these steps are complete, the student’s file is reviewed and an admission decision can be made.
Early School - Kindergarten
9th - 12th Grade
Complete & Submit Portfolio
– 1 written piece from school
– 1 science-related item (test, project, experiment, etc)
– 1 other school-related piece (paper, artwork, etc)
A Note About the Upper School Portfolio Requirement:
This item plays an important role in helping the admission team obtain a better understanding of each child: what academic pursuits are important to them and the strengths they may bring to our community. It also gives every Upper School candidate the opportunity to showcase pieces that they are proud of and that highlight who they are.
Portfolio components may be submitted in any format that works best for you. For example, a piece of art or a project may be scanned/photographed and emailed, dropped off at the Admission Office, or mailed to our attention.
