Boys' Basketball
On Thursday, February 6th, the Hawks traveled to St. Catherine’s, and despite a tremendous effort and a halftime tie at 39, they ultimately fell 77-72. “We shared the ball well, shot it well, battled for boards, and had spurts of excellent defense,” said Coach Jason Atanasoff. “Just a few costly turnovers and some big baskets by St. Catherine’s down the stretch ultimately decided the outcome. I’ll take that type of effort every night.” All five of the Hawks’ starters scored in double figures in the well-balanced offensive attack. Dalton Ahlensdorf ’27 led the way with 17 points and six rebounds, Nolan Greb ’26 scored 15 on 5-10 shooting from behind the arc, Ryan Vanoss ’27 scored 14, while Emmett Wassil ’28 and Carsen Eeg ’25 each added 13.
In another close game, the Hawks took on Thomas More in the JAC on Tuesday, February 11th, bringing home a 57-55 victory. Continuing their trend of balanced offensive attacks, the Hawks had four players in double figures, led by Vanoss with 16 on 5-9 3-point shooting. Eeg added 14, Greb scored 12, and Ahlensdorf had a double-double of 11 points and 15 rebounds. “I’m very happy for the boys to get a win and finish out a close game,” said Coach Atanasoff.
Girls' Basketball
The Hawks celebrated Senior Night on Friday, February 7th, against cross-town rival St. Catherine’s and came away with a resounding 74-45 victory. Fittingly, the Hawks’ two seniors, JJ Barnes and Meg Decker led all scorers in the game with 25 and 24 points, respectively. It was yet another milestone night for Barnes. She pulled down 19 rebounds and became the all-time leading rebounder in Prairie Girls’ Basketball history. Throughout their time in the program, Barnes and Decker certainly made an impact on the stat sheets and the team culture. With Barnes as the program’s all-time leader in points and rebounds and Decker as the program’s all-time leader in steals and assists, they have set an example for dedication, competitiveness, and leadership that their younger teammates look up to every day.
The Hawks traveled to Thomas More on Tuesday, February 11th, and competed in a close contest, coming away with a 70-59 win. In a game that featured 48 fouls between the two teams, the Hawks were able to pull away behind 24 points from Barnes and 23 points from Decker, who shot 10-12 from the free throw line. Fierce rebounding, particularly in the second half, gave the girls an edge that the Cavaliers could not keep up with. Four Hawks rebounded in double figures with Keira Kimbrough ’27 leading the way with 17, 12 from Decker, 11 from Barnes, and 10 from Chloe Babu ’27.
The Hawks traveled to Shoreland Lutheran on Thursday, February 13th, and defeated the Pacers 72-32 to complete an undefeated Metro Classic Conference season. This marks the fourth straight conference championship for the girls; in those 4 seasons, the Hawks have notched an incredible 59-1 record in conference games. In the matchup with the Pacers, the Hawks were led by Kimbrough with 21 points and nine rebounds. Amiyah Galica ‘26 added 15, while Meghan Gavigan ‘27 added 12. The Hawks have two remaining regular season games, playing Wisconsin Lutheran in the JAC on February 17th and at Brookfield Academy on February 20th. Postseason brackets will be revealed on Sunday, February 16th, as the Hawks await their opportunity to begin a playoff run.
Boys' Swim
The shorthanded Boys’ Swim team competed at their conference meet on Saturday, February 8th. Despite only having five swimmers due to illnesses/injuries, the Hawks competed very well and 90% of their times were personal bests. Placing 8th of 10 teams, the boys were able to bring home a 5th place finish in the 200 Medley Relay (Eli Coughlin ’28, Nolan Mrotek ’26, Nolan Barrett ’27, Maksim Rozzoni ’28) with a time of 1:56.67. Mrotek also picked up 5th place finishes in the 200 Free (2:02.54) and the 100 Breaststroke (1:07.99). The Hawks will compete at the Sectional meet on Saturday, February 15th, 2025.
