Girls' Basketball

Prairie took on rival Union Grove on Saturday, January 18th, and won 67-61. Going into halftime with a 32-28 advantage, the Hawks were able to hold off the Broncos’ attempts at a comeback. JJ Barnes ’25 fueled Prairie’s offense, scoring 40 points, 25 of those in the second half to help seal the victory. Those 40 points made her the all-time leading scorer for Prairie Girls’ Basketball, surpassing Gabbi Ortiz ’14, who graduated with 1,860 points. “It’s very cool to be able to leave a legacy here at Prairie,” said Barnes about the accomplishment. “This was a hard fought game, and we battled to the end. It was great to leave with a win.”

Facing conference foe Thomas More on Thursday, January 23rd, the Hawks fought hard against the hot-shooting Cavaliers. Thomas More drained eight 3-pointers in the first half to enter halftime in a tie with our Hawks, 40-40. The Hawks started the second half well, with some good shooting to take the lead. Amiyah Galica ’26 hit key shots early in the second half to build the lead to a career-high 23 points. Seniors Barnes and Meg Decker had 22 and 21 points in the 76-63 win for the Hawks. Keira Kimbrough ’27 pulled down a team high eight rebounds. The Hawks, 7-0 in Metro Classic Conference Play, will begin the second half of their conference season on Saturday at Racine Lutheran.

Boys' Basketball
Despite winning eight of their last nine against the Broncos, the Hawks fell 64-35 in a road game at Union Grove on Saturday, January 18th. “Union Grove came out with intensity and shot it extremely well from the three, especially in the first half,” said Coach Jason Atanasoff. “It is not an effort issue, but we have to find a way to shoot better, defend better, and rebound better…pretty important things in basketball.” Nolan Greb ’26 and Ryan Vanoss ’27 each had 9 points for the Hawks, and Dalton Ahlensdorf ’27 had 11 rebounds. The Hawks look to bounce back in the games ahead, starting with a matchup against Racine Lutheran in the JAC on Friday, January 24th
