Girls' Basketball
Starting winter break off against a formidable opponent, the hawks hosted Appleton Xavier on Saturday, December 21st. Locked in a tight game for much of the first half, the girls pulled away to take a 39-35 advantage at the half. Never giving up the lead in the second half, the Hawks came away with a 78-65 win. JJ Barnes ’25 led the way with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Keira Kimbrough ’27 had a strong game, finishing with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Meg Decker ’25 chipped in 18 points and six steals.
On Friday, December 27th, the Hawks took on Homestead at the Chekouras Classic. In a high-energy game both on the floor and in the stands, the girls made a statement with a 67-51 win. “Team defense was key to the game. We came in with a good game plan defensively and the girls executed it,” said Coach Abby Jaramillo. With another double-double, Barnes led the Hawks with 37 points and 15 rebounds, while Decker added 15 points and eight rebounds.
The Hawks kicked off 2025 by participating in the Grow the Game Showcase in Illinois on January 3rd and 4th. Women coached all teams in the showcase, and all-female crews officiated the games. The event pitted the Hawks against Illinois’ Division 4A eighth-ranked Alton and first-ranked Lyons Township.
On Friday, the Hawks faced off against Alton and fell 59-44. Alton featured two strong and talented post players and allowed the Hawks to work on different defensive looks to manage the height mismatches.
The Hawks then played first-ranked Lyons in Chicago and fell 71-53. Going into the half, the girls led 33-27, but the offensive execution at the end of the game was not enough to come away with the win.
Boys' Basketball
The Hawks took on rival St. Catherine’s to kick off winter break on Friday, December 20th. Despite holding the Angels to 57 points, well below their 80+ points-per-game average, the Hawks could not find their groove offensively and fell 57-39. The Hawks were able to pull within single digits multiple times in the second half, but they could not overcome a 15-42 shooting night. Ryan Vanoss ’27 led the Hawks with 12 points, while Carsen Eeg ’25 had 10 points and a career-high eight rebounds.
Playing in the WBY Shootout at Concordia University in Mequon, the Hawks took on Kettle Moraine Lutheran on December 26th. The boys held their own and came home with a 60-51 victory. Trailing 26-24 at halftime, the Hawks got off to a great start in the second half behind Eeg’s back-to-back threes to take the lead. Eeg led the way in the victory with 18 points and six assists, while Dalton Ahlensdorf ’27 had a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds. Chandler Perry ’27 also scored in double digits for the Hawks with 12 points. The win marked Coach Atanasoff’s 200th career win, to which he added, “I never want it to be about me. It should always be about the players. What it does mean, though, is three things: I’m getting pretty old, I’ve been lucky to have awesome assistant coaches, and I have also been extremely fortunate to coach amazing young men who put the team before themselves. I don’t want to downplay the accomplishment, but the players deserve the vast majority of the credit for the program’s success over the last 13 seasons.”
