Junior Fiona Anton '23 leads the way as Prairie gives back
Imagine a kind stranger sending you a homemade card on Valentine’s Day. That’s what students in the Upper School (US) did recently in Advisory. During the month of February, the advisory focus is service.
The students’ homemade cards with messages of hope, love, and encouragement will be delivered this week to more than 80 seniors at St. Monica’s Senior Living, an assisted care community in Racine for adults 62 and older.
Fiona Anton ’23, a member of Prairie’s Service Club, came up with this activity and is delivering the cards.
“I think it’s really special that somebody’s thinking about you,” Anton said. “Getting cards and valentines from a lot of students who care is just going to make them feel better.”
Anton was inspired to perform this act of service by her grandfather. She is thankful her family was able to care for him in his final years, but realizes many seniors don’t have that luxury.
Later this month, Prairie’s Upper School Service Club is also hosting a Red Cross blood drive. You can sign up for the February 21st event at this link.
There is currently a severe blood shortage. Every donation helps!
