Ed Schmid, renowned glass artist from Washington, visited campus this spring in conjunction with Prairie’s Visiting Artist Series. Ed spent a week working with students and other community members teaching new techniques and assisting in creating pieces.
“Many students, faculty, and even some parents had a chance to get in the studio for an experience with him,” said Vicki Schmitz, Art Department Chair. “Everything from cups, to flowers, glass octopus, fish, and a fire salamander was created this week. It was an energizing event and we are so thankful for his visit.”
Amanda Cosgrove Paffrath ’85, co-owner of Racine’s Hot Shop Glass, was instrumental in collaborating with Prairie to bring Schmid to campus.
Prairie’s Visiting Artist Series brings world-class performers and visual artists into the classroom to provide students direct and meaningful contact with established and emerging innovators and professionals in the Arts.
