Julianne Smith has provided strength and poise for Prairie through a global pandemic

Arguably one of the toughest jobs on campus this year belongs to our School Nurse, Julianne Smith — and she handles it all with incredible poise & strength.

Fittingly, Smith was selected as a 2021 Honoree by The Racine Journal Times for their special section saluting nurses, “the heart of health care.”

“She has been a calming force during this pandemic,” says SRC Director McKenzie Weaver, who nominated Julianne for the honor. “We are so thankful to have her kindness, intelligence and support.”

Smith started working part-time at Prairie in summer 2018, before assuming the head position in the Health Office during the fall of 2020.

“I enjoy getting to know and caring for all of our school children,” she told reporter Robb Luehr. “Hospital stays are generally short so you don’t have the same social opportunity. I feel supported and appreciated every day by the staff, students and families.”
