The Admission Process

We strive to make the admission process simple, enjoyable and informative. The Prairie School is an academic community whose doors are open to all applicants without regard to race, age, cultural ethnicity or nationality, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, marital status or religious affiliation. Admission to the school is based upon each student’s academic records, teacher references, personal interviews, observations by our faculty, a student questionnaire (grades 3-12) and our admission testing (grades ES-12).

Admission is granted on a rolling basis. The process varies slightly by division.

Step One: Application Materials

There are two ways to complete an application to The Prairie School:

Step Two: Student Visit and Observation

All students are required to spend a day at Prairie as part of the application process. Applicants for Early School and Kindergarten will be scheduled for a 3-hour morning visit. Applicants for grades 1-12 will spend the full academic day at Prairie. Visits are scheduled most any day by contacting the Admission Office at 262.752.2525. To learn more about other visit opportunities, click here.

Step Three: Placement Testing

Applicants for Early School through grade 4 will be given an assessment/placement test on the day of their scheduled visit. Students in grades 5-12 will be tested on the following dates and times:

  • Prospective students in grades 7-10 : Saturday, November 4th, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.
  • Prospective students currently in grades 5-6: Saturday, February 3rd, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.

Students must pre-register for these exams by contacting the Admission Office at 262.752.2525. Testers are required to submit an application and copies of current grades (Step One). Alternate arrangements may be made for students unable to make the designated testing dates.

Step Four: Application Evaluation

After all parts of the application are received, the Admission Office meets with the Prairie School faculty members who observed the applicant during his/her visit to review strengths and possible areas of concern. The faculty’s recommendations are essential in the decision-making process. The completed application is then discussed with the admissions committee, the appropriate Division Head and, on occasion, the Head of School.

Step Five: Acceptance and Notification

Families are contacted regarding the official admission decision. Accepted applicants are issued an enrollment contract, which is returned to the School with a $500 tuition deposit. The signed contract and tuition deposit secure the applicant’s place at Prairie.
